One of the primary activities of the National Veterans Awareness Organization is the annual National Veterans Awareness Ride (NVAR). The NVAR provides us the opportunity to accomplish a number of the purposes of the NVAO.
The National Veterans Awareness Ride is a ten day ride across America, from Sacramento, CA to Washington, DC. During this ride, we visit veterans’ hospitals and homes to spend time with vets and thank them for their service. We speak at schools about the pride of patriotism and the importance of veterans in our society. And we participate in memorial services that honor military personnel who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
The NVAR is made up primarily of motorcyclists; however, if a person is unable to ride, he/she is welcome to participate in the ride if he/she shares our passion for veterans and for the goals of the organization.
The NVAR is not a “Fun Run” but rather a mission with a serious and emotional purpose. The hospital, school and memorial service stops during the ride are well planned and organized many months in advance. The welcoming reception at each stop is warm and greatly anticipated by the vets and the friends we’ve made over the years since our first ride in 2005.
Safety is paramount during the ride. We follow strict riding procedures and we have a chase truck that follows the riders in the event of motorcycle problems or rider illnesses.
The experiences we have during the ride are very personal and the memories will last a lifetime. If you would like to participate in the full, cross country ride or if you’d like to ride with us for just a day or two, you are welcome. In the Ride Schedule section of the website, you can see the stops that we made in 2009 and in the Sit-Reps section you can read some of the experiences that were reported during the 2009 ride.
Any questions, please contact any of the officers in the Contact Section.
